A few words about the Abbey Cat Adoption Process

Here at Abbey Cats, the adoption process may take a little longer than you are expecting. That’s because we are attempting to make the best possible match between cat and potential new home.
Here’s how it works:
*Contact the adoption phone line, An adoption counselor will return your call within 24 hours. An interview will take place, and if your cat-owning philosophy fits with ours, we’ll arrange an appointment for you to meet your potential cat at their foster home. We are not a shelter in the same way that O.S.P.C.A or Humane Societies are. All of our cats live with their foster families in homes throughout the G.T.A. As a result, our cats are much healthier, happier, and sociable. Because of where the cats are fostered, it may take some additional time to set up a meeting time and place to meet your new friend.
*When meeting your adoptee cat at their foster home, please be prepared to take the cat home if everyone is in agreement that you are meant for each other. A cat carrier with a metal door is essential for the cat’s safety – and yours – during the transport to your home. We’d also like to know that you are prepared to take a cat, having basic supplies (litter box, food, etc.) on hand.
So why balk at spending a few days searching? Remember, in choosing a cat you are choosing a companion who will be with you for up to twenty years, so you want to know you have the best possible cat compatible with you and your family. Please make the investment of time finding the right cat. Abbey Cats is like no other rescue group out there. We care passionately about the animals in our program and treat them with the same love, respect and care that we show our own.
We believe we adopt to the top 10% of pet owners whose philosophy matches with ours. If you care about finding a cat that has been given the best care, the best diet and the most love since the hour it entered our program, then take the time to work with one of our adoption counselors, so that together we will find the perfect cat for you. We are highly knowledgeable about what constitutes excellence in cat care and want to adopt to people who believe, as we do, that their cat is a valued and valuable member of their family.
We try that much harder.

We have lots of cats!
In addition to the cats and kittens featured on the
web site, you can see available cats and kittens at individual foster
homes.
We want to make sure that our rescued cats and kittens
go to good, loving homes so before we adopt, an adoption counsellor
will conduct a short pre-adoption interview to make sure that you
and the cat are a good match.
If you don't already have a cat or other pets at home,
consider adopting more than one kitten
or cat. Kittens in particular need company during the day
and adopting two at once will give your new pet a playmate when
you're not at home.
